Le soir de son arrivée dans la capitale Kinshasa, le couple royal a été reçu par le président Tshisekedi et son épouse pour un dîner privé.
Le lendemain, la journée a débuté par un dépôt de gerbes au monument aux anciens combattants de la Force publique, où un hommage a été rendu au dernier membre encore en vie de cette unité, qui a été impliquée dans les deux guerres mondiales sur le continent africain. La journée s’est poursuivi au musée national inauguré en 2019, en présence du couple présidentiel.
A la mi-journée, le roi et la reine ont été accueillis au Palais de la Nation, résidence du président Tshisekedi. Sur l’esplanade du Palais du Peuple, siège du Parlement, le souverain belge a réitéré « ses plus profonds regrets » pour les souffrances infligées au peuple congolais pendant la période coloniale. Après une visite au projet « KinEmploi » mis en oeuvre par la coopération belge, le journée s’est clôturée par un banquet officiel à la Cité de l’Union africaine.
Jeudi, les femmes étaient notamment à l’honneur, avec une visite au marché aux pagnes, près du port d’embarquement vers Brazzaville, où des « mamans » vendent leurs tissus emblématiques de l’Afrique de l’Ouest. Plus tard dans la journée, une table ronde sur les droits des femmes a eu lieu à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts.
